Artists Reaching Through Teaching (ARTT) is the public school educational component of Florida's Eden. ARTT pairs local naturalists, writers, artists, and other community treasures with core curriculum teachers for week long "creative residencies" with the goal of impacting the overall educational experience. Teachers, students and residents alike come away from the residencies with new insights.
ARTT:
1. Works within Existing Curriculum
2. Incorporates Sunshine State Standards to increase Student Achievement and FCAT performance
3. Promotes 21st Century Skills
4. Connects Students to Community as Advocates
5. Gives VOICE
6. Integrates Science and the Humanities
7. Builds Learn and Serve Opportunities
8. Will be Evaluated as a Pilot Program for Regional Replication
In 2007 ARTT embarked on a three year pilot program at Fort White High School (FWHS) and middle school, with a focus on 8th grade. The pilot program is a partnership between ARTT, FWHS, and the Ichetucknee State Park. The program has the support of the Fort White town commission and the Columbia County School Board. Evaluation of the program is being carried out by Dr. David Miller of the University of Florida College of Education.
ARTT SUPPORT
The Erica Lavender Fund, established in memory of Erica Lavender, serves as the core endowment for Artists Reaching Through Teaching (ARTT) projects. The Erica Lavender Fund has been matched with foundation grants.
